Lip Reduction



What does it try to accomplish?

Reduces the fullness of the lips.


How is it done?

A strip of skin is taken away from the back of the lip from inside the mouth.


How long does the operation take?

¾ of an hour.


How long is the stay in the clinic?

1 night or day case.


What type of stitches are used?

Dissolvable.


How long are they left in?

A few days.


What type of dressing is used?

Sticky tape.


How long is it left on?

Few days.


Is there any bruising?

Slight.


Is there any swelling?

Often quite dramatic and prolonged.


What pain will there be?

Soreness and discomfort only.


Where are the scars and how bad are they?

Inside the mouth, not usually a problem.


How long does it take to recover?

2 weeks.


When is the final result seen?

3 months.


How long does it last?

Permanent.




Common Complications
Early: The main problem is the swelling.
Late: Can settle down to be uneven in which case the operation can be adjusted.
