Botox Injection
What does it try to accomplish?
Reduces deep wrinkles, especially on the forehead and around the eyes.
How is it done?
Tiny amounts of a special paralysing chemical are injected through the skin with a very fine needle into the overactive muscles that are producing the wrinkles. The muscles then stop working and the wrinkles soften and may disappear.
How long does the operation take?
A few minutes.
How long is the stay in the clinic?
Outpatient only.
What type of stitches are used?
None.
What type of dressing is used?
None
Is there any bruising?
There can be bruising lasting for a few days at the site of the injection.
Is there any swelling?
Small amount of local swelling only.
What pain will there be?
The actual injection is a bit painful like all injections, but there should be no pain afterwards.
Where are the scars and how bad are they?
None.
How long does it take to recover?
Almost immediately.
When is the final result seen?
The chemical takes three or four days to begin to work so that the muscles stop contracting, and the wrinkles begin to improve soon after. The best result is at two weeks.
How long does it last?
Up to three or four months.
Common Complications

It is possible that some of the chemical might produce weakness in muscles that were not intended to be treated, producing a droop of the eyebrows etc. For this reason treatment has to be relatively cautious. It is possible for the effect to be uneven in which case it will need to be repeated. |

The effect slowly wears off in a few months and can then be repeated. |
